The Swap Shop Rules
The Swap Shop is owned by Derby Swap Shop Limited and our rules are pretty simple. An individual, business or charity is looking for something to help their business. In return they will provide a swap offering services or goods in return.
The key is finding the right match. There will be someone who can swap with you, opening up endless possibilities of networking, making new connections and joining in with the brilliant community spirit. Not sure if you match exactly, then why not make them an offer?
Simply create your account, post your swaps and wait for someone to contact you.
The Swap Shop is a community for business, charities and individuals. In the best interest of keeping Swap Shop a site that can be used by people across the country we have to insist on a few rules.
The Swap Shop site, as you would expect, is overseen by several moderators. The Mods, The Swap Spys, Derby Detectives or whatever else you may want to refer to them as. They monitor the Swaps that are being placed by members of Swap Shop to make sure that Swaps are appropriate.
All we ask is that you respect the site, each member and the role of each and every moderator. If you are not sure about what you can or cannot post feel free to drop the team a quick email to email@example.com
Now for the boring bits…We have to point out that the swapping of goods and/or services may lead to corporation tax, income tax and VAT considerations that would need to be made by each swapper. Derby Swap Shop are not providing advice in this respect but rather taking this opportunity to highlight that you may want to consider obtaining professional advice in respect of your swap.
Every member has the ability to report a swap to the moderators by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. We want to promote the use of the site and self regulation to everyone, when we receive a report on a Swap of our moderators will remove this post until we have reviewed this to make sure it is in line with our expectations.
We will not accept the individual targeting of members or the abuse of this powerful tool. If any members are found to be abusing this tool by targeting individual members a warning will be issued.
The moderators also have the right to edit, delete, move or close any Swap as they see necessary, without prior warning.

Advertising and Self Promotion
Your purpose in joining The Swap Shop should not be to promote, advertise or otherwise call attention to your own site, blogs, products or business. We expect all members to use the site for its intended purpose. You have a business need and are offering something in return. It’s pretty simple really.
Advertising – using the site for advertising or product promotion, or for business deals. You may not make Swaps to promote commercial, personal, or not-for-profit websites, products, or services. Swaps will be deleted if their purpose is to advertise, announce, or promote products, services, or organisations, build traffic at other websites, carry out business activities, or for similar purposes that do not benefit our users.
Shilling – if you pretend to be a consumer who recommends your own product(s) or favours your own product(s) over others, without admitting your affiliation, you will be banned. Anyone who post in threads only to criticize a competitor’s product while promoting their own will also be banned.
Soliciting – you may not use the forums to solicit donations, votes, or participants for surveys, contests, petitions, product testing or employment opportunities/requests.
Memberships created solely for these purposes will be banned.
Any member that is found to have multiple accounts will have their accounts removed and permanently banned from the forums. If you are having any issues accessing your account please contact us for help.
At times we may feel that you have overstepped the mark and a warning will be given, issues via email to your registered account. Warnings are there to give you a quick heads up that your post or comment isn’t acceptable in the forums. Moderators will monitor the warnings given and when the time has come you may find yourself permanently banned. If we don’t receive a response to your warning within 24 hours we reserve the right to remove your access.
Moderators reserve the right to issue permanent bans without warning for more serious offences.
Swaps for Money
Swap Shop is about trading with each other for free to support each other during lockdowns and beyond. Therefore this is not the place to create an offer that you are basically asking money for. That’s not a swap. Swaps need to be free, and in our experience, simple practical things. For example a headshot of you for your website, in return for some advice on SEO words. Or the creation of an online electronic order form, and in return you will give some marketing advice on an advert or create a press release. Equally, don’t ask for a swap that’s usually valued at thousands of pounds – think about what is possible for people to do for free.
Go to the website to see great examples of current swaps, to help you, and you can always ask the Crew for help – email@example.com
We do reserve the right to ask you to change or even remove your swap if it does not meet our guidelines.
